The Jenny Handley Productions Gourmet Guide held its first awards ceremony on Monday 23rd of October, where the top 21 restaurant and their chefs were given the honour of being “Plated” in an exclusive event. The awards ceremony which was held at The Stack in Cape Town, hosted some of South Africa’s top restaurateurs and chefs to acknowledge and award excellence in the culinary field.
Indochine Restaurant headed by Chef Virgil Kahn was awarded “Two Plate” status for their Asian-Fusion styled cuisine. According to the JHP Gourmet Guide, the ranking scoring system or more commonly known as the “Plated” ranking system works on a 3-tier status, One Plate ranking recognises restaurants regarded as having ‘Excellent Cuisine”. A Two Plate ranking are for those restaurants who offer “Exceptional dining that demands a detour”, while a coveted Three plate ranking is reserved for those restaurants who provide “World Class dining worthy of a flight”.
A special word of congratulations needs to go out to the 3 restaurants who achieved the first ever “Three plate” status – La Colombe, Restaurant Mosaic and lastly the Test Kitchen.
Thanks to the creation of JHP’s Gourmet Guide and Indochine’ s Two Plate status, Chef Virgil and his devoted kitchen staff are poised and ready for a busy peak season with guest from all around the world looking to experience their award winning cuisine.
