2021 Best Of Wine Tourism Awards
Wine tourism triumph for Delaire Graff Estate
Delaire Graff Estate has been named a winner at the Network’s 2021 Best of Wine Tourism Awards, having taken first place in both the Architecture & Landscape, and the Wine Tourism Restaurant categories.
Delaire Graff Estate has been described as “the acme of South Africa’s remarkable wine tourism offering” by the Great Wine Capitals Global Network. We are elated to announce the Estate has been named a winner at the Network’s 2021 Best Of Wine Tourism Awards, having taken first place in both the Architecture & Landscape and the Wine Tourism Restaurant categories.
Today, Delaire Graff Estate includes an ultra-modern winery with an elegant wine lounge, two restaurants, a tranquil spa, and a collection of villa-style lodges. The architecture is contemporary and sophisticated while remaining uniquely South African. Thatched roofs, sleek gables and polished plaster walls in earthy tones are part of the Estate’s modern interpretation of Cape Dutch vernacular style. The property’s glamorous interiors, oozing local provenance and impressive attention to detail, were masterminded by the David Collins Studio. Iconic design elements include riempie chairs, beaten copper, stone-packed walls, peach-pip floors and white-washed rietdak ceilings amongst others, each a marvel of true craftsmanship.
The two restaurants found on the Estate are unique not only in their architecture but also in their style of cuisine; yet both are renowned for focusing on producing beautiful dishes reflective of the best seasonal, ethically and locally sourced ingredients. Delaire Graff Estate is an astounding and diverse culinary destination.
Views stretch over cultivated vineyards and across mountain valleys at the Estate’s two Flagship Restaurants; the winners within the restaurant category in this year’s Best Of Wine Tourism Awards. The restaurants are frequently named among the world’s top dining experiences.
The beautifully imagined bistro-chic food complements the sensational setting, indoors and out, with chefs picking produce daily from the property’s bountiful greenhouse and gardens. The Estate is committed to seasonal farming, supporting free-range, pasture-reared livestock and local farmers within Africa, quality which translates into each vibrant dish within an elegant setting.
Between the buildings, the gardens have been conceptualised by landscape artist Keith Kirsten and rise from a flower-filled amphitheater at the estate’s entrance to the manicured lawns above. With over 350 indigenous plants and trees, the gardens are in bloom every day of the year providing an ever-evolving seasonal backdrop for the Estate’s outdoor sculptures from artists including Dylan Lewis, Deborah Bell & Yves Dana.
Throughout 2020, Delaire Graff Estate has been the recipient of notable awards. The 2020 Tim Atkins Report awarded the Estate for the Best Cellar Door Experience, as well as placing 14th in World’s Best Vineyards Award for Best Winery, coming in 1st in Africa. Condé Nast named the Estate the best hotel in South Africa, and Forbes awarded the Lodges & Spa a five-star rating. These accolades are a testament to Delaire Graff Estate’s commitment to offering, even the most discerning guests, an unrivalled multifaceted experience which marries food, wine, architecture and art in an unparalleled setting.
