The new four-bedroom Owner’s Villa is the jewel in the crown of Delaire Graff Estate

A stunning extension of the Graff brand, the Owner’s Villa at Delaire Graff Estate is the most exclusive private villa in South Africa.  Nestled amongst the unrivalled natural beauty of the Cape Winelands, it is a sumptuous showcase of the very best South Africa has to offer, from the exquisite interiors and inspiring artworks to the dedicated butler service and private setting, with panoramic views of the impressive Simonsberg Mountain and across to Table Mountain. Accessed through a private entrance, via gabled gates designed with a modern reference to Cape Dutch architecture, the four-bedroomed Villa is angled further to the west to take in the far-reaching vista.

When it welcomes its first guests in 2019, the four-bedroom Villa will be the jewel in the crown of Delaire Graff Estate, which opened in 2009 and has quickly become a world-leading destination for wine, art and hospitality. Promising an unforgettable escape in the heart of the Cape Winelands, the exclusive property synergises perfectly with the requirements and lifestyle of Graff’s discerning clientele.

“The Owner’s Villa has been a very personal project for me,” explains Laurence Graff, Chairman of Graff. “It is an extension of what we already offer at Delaire – fabulous service, exceptional art, the finest South African hospitality and the most incredible views – but with even greater levels of luxury and privacy. When it opens, it will be the most luxurious private villa in South Africa.”
Offering absolute privacy, the 660m2 Villa showcases the very best of contemporary Cape architecture and is the perfect option for groups of up to eight guests. Welcomed by the soothing sound of water features, reflective ‘canvases’ for walls, sky and mountains, a grand porte-cochère leads to the double-height entrance hall. A moving sculpture, Helen Sibidi’s kneeling bronze entitled ‘She is Greeting’ is framed by an expansive wall of glass, cleverly and subtly guiding the eye to the magnificent terrain beyond.

Designed to appear as if it is floating above the vineyards below, the Villa acts as a gallery space, with floor-to-ceiling picture windows providing the perfect vantage point from which to admire the idyllic scenery. The expansive, double-height living and dining areas lead out seamlessly on to the completely private outdoor terrace.

Mr Graff had a very specific request for the 200-year-old French oak timber ceiling, paired seamlessly with slatted wooden shutters that run the western length of the Villa. By day they are open to the view over orchards and distant hills, while at sundown they play an important role in harnessing the light, casting geometric shadows over decks and the rooms within.

Custom-made bronze mirrors and hand-knotted woollen silk rugs are accompanied by an elegant and eclectic mix of furniture by leading designers and local craftspeople. Inspiration for the colour palette and patterns came directly from Africa, married with European touches. A three-metre-long organic serpentine sofa by Vladimir Kagan, upholstered in a burnt orange Lora Piano fabric, especially selected by Laurence Graff to echo the shade of Delaire Graff Estate sunsets, contrasts beautifully with a West African carved wooden bench by the Senufo Tribe.

Laurence Graff has also personally chosen the artworks on display in the Owner’s Villa, which include sculptures by local artists and celebrated pieces by artists from South Africa, Zimbabwe, the Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Mai and the DRC – a pan African convocation of vibrancy and poignancy. Every detail at the Owner’s Villa is considered for its aesthetic impact, and to take guests’ breath away, from the floating staircase and contemporary fireplaces in every room.

From the custom-built wine cellar to the dedicated butler service, which will be available to Villa guests throughout their stay, dining is an unforgettable experience. The Villa’s private chef designs the menu from fresh, locally sourced ingredients paired with a fine vintage selected by a sommelier from the 300-bottle wine cellar. As dusk falls, canapés and Delaire Graff sparkling wine will be served beneath the stars – a tantalising taste of the world-class service that accompanies every stay at the Villa.
